Grameen Shikkha Emergency Food Support Program for Poor Slum School Students

Soon after the outbreak of COVID-19 in Bangladesh Grameen Shikkha, encouraged by its Chairman Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, took up an Emergency Food Support program for the poorest students of Grameen slum schools in Mirpur, Dhaka. Later Grameen Kalyan (Welfare) came forward to finance it for three months. A total of 163 students and their families (815 people altogether) received more than three months food support under this program. The bi-weekly food package comprised 15 kg rice, 2 kg lentil, 2 liter soybean, 10 kg potatoes and also 2 pieces of bath soap per family. Grameen Shikkha also conducted a similar food support program, financed by its own staff, for some of its poorest pre-school students and their families in Singair, Manikganj for more than three months.
